A key component in our separation process to maximize the biomass extraction process is utilized with centrifugal force that is thousands more powerful than gravity to effectively separate the liquid/solid phases .  A bowl is rotated about a horizontal axis subjecting the slurry to movement to a final output from the system into solids discharge port. The sediment formed during this process is continuously removed by a screw conveyor that is rotating at a different speed than the bowl.   A specialized planetary gearbox allows a reduction in speed at a 125:1 ratio.  The clarified liquid phase overflows adjustable dam plates and the solvent is discharged to a holding tank for the solvent recovery step.

The backdrive control is coupled with a ratio of speed between the bowl and the conveyor assembly.  The PLC system monitors and controls the torque applied to the back drive by monitoring the feedback from a combination of two VFD systems that are coupled together for effective filtration.  The operator can monitor key parameters in the system and adjust the ratios to effectively control the separation process.  Differential limits between the backdrive and the main drive are the key to a separation rate for a cleaner finished product. 

A CIP screen allows the system to be cleaned each day at the end of the process to prevent buildup of product on the conveyor blades.
